Piggy has never won Belton’s Grantham Cup but she will never come closer. Jayne McGivern’s Quarrycrest Echo was 0.01 of a second over the time in the show jumping giving him one penalty which proved the difference between 1st and 3rd. Nevertheless, an excellent dressage test, super show jumping clear and great spin round the cross country for 0.4 time penalties left the Team French camp feeling very positive. This was his first CIC*** completion and he more than held his own in a competitive field of over 100 established combinations.
Tom March’s Jump Jet took the runner up spot in the CIC**, adding 2.4 cross country time penalties to his 41.9 dressage score. He was fantastic in the jumping phases and should be another to look forward to bigger things later in the year. He has now done three CIC competitions with Piggy and finished 2nd in all three. Let’s hope he can get his head in front before the season is out.
Trevor Dicken’s Vanir Kamira got a tick in the qualification box at Belton so it was a case of mission accomplished. She scored 47.7 in the dressage, rolled two poles in the show jumping and ran steadily round the cross country. Piggy is learning about her all the time and this was certainly a big step up on her two OI runs so far this season.
