It was a long drive to Burgham, but well worth the early start on Friday morning. It’s a lovely event, with good ground and a super atmosphere. It was also successful for Piggy…
Belco HRS was having a second Open Novice run before going Intermediate next time. He acted a lot nearer his 9 years of age than he had at Aston Le Walls last week and it was nice to give him a good outing, stable away, and have the benefit of a ‘main arena’ with flags, trade stands, etc. He comfortably led his Open Novice section from start to finish, adding nothing to his dressage score of 21.3 in the jumping phases to win by more than 8 marks.
Jump Jet, fresh from his FEI debut at Great Witchingham two weeks ago, was again on best behaviour. He couldn’t quite match Belco HRS’s 21.3 but scored an excellent 22.8 in his dressage. He added nothing to his first phase score to continue his excellent run of form with a 2nd place finish. He now upgrades to Intermediate points and steps up to that level for the first time at Aston Le Walls in two weeks time.
Morswood had a frustrating time in seeking a CIC** qualification. He performed a lovely test to score 48.8, just 3 marks behind some significantly more experienced rivals. He rolled one pole in the show jumping at the very last fence over a big a technical track which caused plenty of problems. Unfortunately after picking up 20 penalties on the cross country Piggy decided to retire with, him Gatcombe on the horizon.
